Sweet Cinder Rattery
Breeding healthy, well tempered rats with amazing personalities
Attention
I say this with a very heavy heart, but we have decided that we may go on a hiatus over here at our Rattery for the time being. We will still be on facebook, returning emails, updating the site and of course... loving our ratties, but we don't have the time or space to be breeding many litters throughout the year right now and we want what's best for our rats. Of course we are quite bummed about this, but we had a wonderful litter back in August and it was just an amazing experience for us. As for future plans though, in a couple of years I am planning on "taking charge" of SCNR on my own (rather than a family Rattery), talking to many breeders, and starting fresh with hopefully a Merle, American Blue and Siamese/Burmese line (my "dream" lines) in marked and self with dumbos and standard ears, rex and standard coats and maybe even adding dwarf rats into the mix someday. We may do one last litter before our hiatus begins (SCNR Whispers in the Wind x SCNR Sweet Toned for a 25% mink/mink based litter) this summer (2011) but otherwise our current ratties will all be retired and live out happy spoiled lives here at Sweet Cinder Rattery. Please check the site often, for it will be updated and if you ever need any help being directed towards any great breeders in your area, just shoot me an email!
Thanks.
Thanks.
We are a small Rattery located in Madison Wisconsin and our rats are registered with NARR under the prefix SCNR. The name "Sweet Cinder" is dedicated to one of my most loving rats "Cinder" that I bonded with the most. She passed away in late 2008, and will be missed by me and the rest of her family, both ratties and humans.
I breed to help improve the rat breed, focusing first and most importantly on health and temperament followed by conformation and colors. Another main goal of mine is that I want to produce sweet rats, that make an all-around great pet. I will not breed a rat that I feel doesn't have a good temperament or that has health problems. I want all adopters to stay in contact with me to tell me if any health problems show up, and how the rat is fitting in with the family (oh, and I like to see pictures of the growing rats as well) Please visit the Adoption page!
We specialize in breeding (as of now) Black and Mink Hoodeds and Barebacks in Standard coats with Standard and Dumbo ears. We aren't working with much now since we are just starting out in our Rattery and getting our lines going, but I hope to breed Siamese (with Seal and Blue Points), Blues (American and/or Russian) and hopefully Merles (Pearl and Mink) if I ever have the chance to in the future. As we continue to breed our goals for coloring may and will change but so far this is what I am planning to work with sometime.
As for the coats, I am currently only working with the Standard coat but I hope to possibly bring some rex into our lines.
For ears, I am mainly have litters with Standard/Top eared rats but we may have a litter of dumbos every now and then.
We are considered a fairly small Rattery though as we breed only a litter or two a year, and we take breaks in the winter and breed only in the Summer or early Fall. The reason for this is because we want to insure all babies are socialized properly and that we can find homes for all of them and Summer is when we have the most time. Also, we only have around 8-10 residents at a time, mainly because they are family pets before breeders, and I want to make sure they all get a lot of attention and are spoiled throughout their whole lives. We do occasionally have litters available though, so check our planned litters page.
All my rats are played with and socialized everyday, including some outside time during the summer and I like to have visitors talk to and handle them to help me with the socialization process.
